Forgiving a person is difficult, especially when you have been deeply wounded. For this reason, a prayer to forgive others has been provided for your use.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:14-15, that we cannot receive forgiveness from God unless we forgive those who hurt or sinned against us. Therefore, pray this prayer if there is someone you need to forgive. Pray until you stop replaying the event in your mind, and you are no longer hurting.
A Prayer to forgive others
Father, you said in Your Word that I must forgive if I want You to forgive me. So, I ask You now to heal me of the hurt that I’m feeling. Help me to stop replaying the events over in my mind, and focus on You, instead.
Lord, I realize that You know my pain and Your desire is that I be restored. Moreover, Your Word says I should cast all my cares upon You (1 Peter 5:7). Therefore, I give You my pain, and I vow not to pick it up again.
I thank you Lord, that You will walk with me through this process of forgiving. I thank You that You will never leave nor forsake me.
Now Father, I pray for (insert name of person). Jesus said we should pray for our enemies and those who mistreat us (Matthew 5:44-49). Therefore, I pray that You draw (insert name of person) to You, by Your Holy Spirit. Give him/her a hunger and a thirst for Your righteousness and bring (insert name of person) into a deeper relationship with You.
Thank you, Father for releasing me from the spirit of unforgiveness and continuing to forgive me as I forgive others. I hold no bitterness, malice, or resentment in my heart towards (insert name of person). Lord, I thank You that I am whole. In Jesus name, Amen.
